Asa I Kings 15

I Kings 15:11 "And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father."

Asa was the son of Abijam (called Abijah in Chronicles) but for reasons of tradition he was also called the son of David as many more men were.

Asa was a good king and reigned 41 years. He had a disease in his feet in his old age.

He tried his best to do away with idol worship and other things that displeased the LORD. He even had his mother the queen removed from her throne because of her idol worship. He made a league with other nations and seems to have studied after David. When he was surrounded by the enemy he prayed for deliverance and had victory. That story can be found in chronicles.

Meanwhile in Israel Baasha the son of Ahijah of Issachar took the kingship from Nadab the son of Jeroboam.

v28 "Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him (Nadab), and reigned in his stead."

He reigned 24 years over Israel.

v34 "And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin."

Psalm 65:9 "Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it."
